2Failed after 9 monthsMay 03, 2009
By Daniel W. Nelson
I bought this drive for my iMac (2008 model) and used it with Time Machine and it worked fine until it failed 9 months later. Disk Utility could not repair it. Sigh.

1DIDN'T EVEN LAST 4 MONTHS!!!Jul 06, 2009
By de la selva
I bought this hard drive in March and put about 500 gigs of info on it and last week, when I turned it on, a message came up on my computer saying, "The disk you have inserted contains no volumes that mac osx can read. Initialize, ignore, or eject". Called Buffalo Tech's customer service and they said, "You could try Disk Warrior and if that doesn't work send it to a disk data recovery service." Well I shelled out $100 for the Disk Warrior software and guess what? It did nothing. So now I'm either going to be out another $300-$600, IF I should be so lucky that my data isn't lost forever. So a $150 hard drive has now turned into a $250-$850 dollar hard drive AND is utterly USELESS to boot... all in less than 4 months!!!!!

1Failed TwiceAug 12, 2010
By Alisa C Placas
I was looking for a drive to use as my mac's Time Machine backup and was directed to this drive by a third party sales rep. It worked OK for a while, but eventually stopped running Time Machine and became unmountable. Disk Utility was not even able to erase and reformat it. I got an RMA from Buffalo Tech and they replaced it. The exact same thing happened to the second drive. My only option is to replace it again through Buffalo. I do not want this drive as I have no faith in it any longer and I am also out a great deal of time, frustration and the costs to ship both drives back to the manufacturer.

1Near useless in Windows 7Mar 05, 2010
By G. Nagy
Worked well under Windows XP. The included backup tool was nice and easy to use.

But then... I upgraded to Windows 7. The included backup tool is NOT Windows 7 compatible (luckily I used a COPY ONLY backup.) The drive is unstable under Win7. It disconnects and cannot be remounted after only a few minutes. Large copies while restoring files freezes the drive.

I checked the Buffalo site for new driver and backup software. Neither has any update.

3Chipset cause kernel panic in OSX 64 bitSep 27, 2010
By Patrick Ho "Rejoice Saving"
Just be aware that this drive has a chipset that cause kernel panic in OSX 64bit mode when connected using firewire. That is why the reason I rate it 3 stars. Otherwise this is a very nice hard drive. I used for a few years and it can be upgrade to 2 TB easily. It is solid and nicely made. I was planning to connect it to OSX server, but since the server runs on 64 bits. No lack at all.
