Not what you get in the grocery store.Nov 12, 2009
By Bill C. This Halvah is best served cold. It is free from trans fat and that's very important. Trans fats (partially hydrogenated oils) accumulate in the blood vessels and kill you. I lost many younger friends to trans fats. This is a HEALTH FOOD product and it TASTES LIKE HEALTH FOOD. It's not as sweet and the grocery store halvah but it still tastes good. Also be sure to make it cold before serving or the chocolate coating will melt and create a real mess. Anyway, I still like it and for now it's the only safe halvah available. If you can stand eating bland granola bars and healthy treats, this is for you. I hope some day they change the recipe, they can use natural honey as a sweetener, that's how it was made years ago.
This brings me to my childhoodApr 29, 2012
By Twinnie #1 I grew up in a town North of Chicago with a large Jewish population. Halvah was a treat that we had in our house all the time, the only place you could buy it was the deli. It came in 2 flavors: plain and marbled (chocolate like). You bought it by the ounce from the deli guy who would cut it off the block of halvah. When delis stopped carrying it, we were able to find the chocolate covered sold in pharmacies and local small markets. Fast forward 30 years, had moved to Northern California and not had halvah in years. Then I see it at Real Foods. The first bar I bought was stale so my opinion was it wasn't the halvah I knew. I bought a bar a while later, hopefull and to give it another chance--that bar was less stale. I advised the buyer at Real Foods about it being stale. I bought a bar again recently and it was fresh and delicious, exactly the way it should taste and the right texture (texture is important)
The texture and taste is something people who know halvah can appreciate. I treat myself to one of there bars whenever I shop at Real Foods but not more than once a month It's strictly a treat because it's very high in fat and calories.
I give this bar 5 stars, as long as the bars are fresh. Yummmmmmmm.
it's not the Halvah you remember, but it's GOODJun 24, 2011
By Pat A Genuine halvah has a unique and distinctive texture, which apparently can not be duplicated using healthier ingredients! That said, Camel Halvah is good stuff, albeit gummier, more oily, and less sweet. I agree with the previous reviewer who said it's improved by chilling. This stuff is CRAZY high in calories though, so if you're not an active health nut", this may not be the snack for you.
Yuck, I hade betterOct 11, 2009

It tasted kinda old and a bit dry. The Joyva brand is much better and was the same brand I had had when I was a kid, 45 years ago.
Great Healthy SnackApr 03, 2008
By C. Coffee This bar is a great alternative to the usual protein/power bars out there. It has just enough sweetness to satisfy, but not overly sweet. Love them!
