Not your ordinary use ...Feb 05, 2009

I bought these shells for a rather unusual reason: housing for my colony of shell-dwelling cichlids, Neolamprologus multifasciatus. On the off chance a fellow fish fancier is looking for shells, these are the ones you want. They're 100% clean (no soaking required), and the perfect size for any of the shelldwellers. My multis just hatched out their first batch of eggs in one.
I can't say how good they are for serving escargots in, but if you're breeding any of the Tanganyika shelldwellers, you can't go wrong with a box of these shells, and the price is right. They arrived in perfect condition, without any breakage. One box will furnish up to a 20-gallon aquarium.

I also bought these shells for my shell dwelling cichlids. The shells are a nice size for multies and arrived in excellent condition. I just washed them off real quick and laid them across the bottom. My multies quickly began picking out their new homes. Awesome product!

I used these to cook Roland snailsRoland Giant Snails (12 Count), 7.75-Ounce Cans (Pack of 12)
These shells were large enough to perform the task at hand for those snails which I thought were large. If they were much larger it might have not produced a good enough seal around the snail to keep the butter in. I call them "just right"

I bought these shells based on an earlier review saying these are great shells for shell dwelling cichlids. And they're everything anyone could look for in a shell for this purpose...they're very pretty shells and lightweight so the tiny fish can move them where they want them. They were packaged carefully so none were broken or cracked. I was really surprised at the quality for such a great price. They're definitely 5 stars.

Like some other buyers, I found this product a perfect solution to my need, but not for the purpose that the manufacturer intended. You see, I too have an aquarium for Tanganyikan cichlids - some of which are shell dwellers. Appropriate shells for these fish are difficult to find as these fish are rather rare.
Internet sites (including Ebay) and Tropical Fish stores did not really offer good solutions. The shells must have large round openings, be lightweight (so the fish can move them to their liking) and offer a roomy interior (for breading and hiding). The Escargot shells are all that and the perfect size as well!!!
The price was reasonable, shipping was fast and I was amazed that none of the shells were broken.
