5BEST SOFT LIQUORICEOct 06, 2008
By Ingrid
Everyone (who likes the taste of licorice) I've ever given a piece of this to is always surprised by how incredibly GOOD it tastes because usually when you buy licorice it tastes sort of "flat." My "picky licorice lovers" LOVE it. They always ask me immediately where I got it, like they're ready to run out there right that second to buy some. It is fabulous for licorice lovers as it has just the right texture of chewiness, and has a LOT of flavor balanced with sweetness - so you don't feel like you've accidentally started chewing on licorice root itself. (Some licorice is just way too strong/bitter for me.)

It's made in Australia...and whoever came up with the recipe, nailed it.

I love this candy!! No other liquorice will be satisfactory after eating this. It has true old timey liquorice favor. I wish it didn't cost so much but I guess good ingredients cost more than the artificial stuff they put in liquorice wanabes. This is by far the best I have ever had. If you order this just be sure you order enough because it is addictive.

4sydney surpriseApr 30, 2010

In February we flew to Sydney, Australia three days prior to boarding a cruise to the west coast of Australia and several Asian countries.

We stayed in a hotel that was central to the Quay and Chinatown. On our walk to a delightful Chinese restaurant we ran across a confectioner shop called Darrell Lea. I have always had a sweet tooth for licorice and I spotted a bag of black licorice and asked the clerk if I could sample a piece. She said yes and then I was hooked like a junkie on dope. I bought several bags and asked the clerk if I could buy them in the States. She said she didn't think that was possible.

After we returned home from our cruise, my wife and I decided to try to find this delicious confection in our state of Washington. I went on the Internet and found them on Amazon. I ordered two boxes of them and will continue to enjoy one of the most intense licorice candies I have ever had.

5One of the bestMar 30, 2007

Kookabura is the better-known brand in the U.S., but in Australia, Darrell Lea has their own chain of stores selling licorice and chocolate. I first tasted their licorice, strawberry, mango and green apple flavors on a trip to Australia a few years ago. The flavor is intense and the texture is soft and chewy. I introduced my office mates to this brand, and the consensus is that this is the best.

5About time I could find the Aussie stuff!Jun 24, 2009

As a recent addition to the United States, one of the most dissapointing things was the bland, rubbery licorice. I was absolutely thrilled to find Darrell Lea online, as I have always enjoyed it back home. Now I get to eat it here too!
Darrell Lea is as they say the most popular soft eating licorice brand in Australia. The 7 ounce bags did disappear rather quickly, but that is why they give you eight. Seriously, if you love licorice, you will not be dissapointed.
