5No, it's not like wheat bread...Mar 05, 2008
By eskualdun
... but it is a 'safe' product for people who allergic to wheat, gluten, yeast, and/or eggs. My child is one of them.

You can't expect a product without wheat, gluten, yeast or eggs to be anything like a product that contains them. It would be like expecting a chocolate cream pie to taste like a lemon meringue pie- it's not gonna happen.

What this is is a healthy grain source and a means of holding your sandwich together.

It actually makes surprisingly good toast... with butter and jam- great.

3A lifesaver for those on gluten-free, yeast-free diet and suffering from many food intolerances.Mar 03, 2010
By Jaycee "moveon"
There aren't many products that are gluten-free and also yeast-free especially in bread. I have many food intolerances, so most other products add other ingredients which give me a bad reaction. This isn't the greatest tasting product but when on a limited diet, I am thankful for it. I always toast mine and add some Smart Balance spread and a slight amount of honey and I look forward to eating it every day. I buy from six to twelve loaves at a time so I don't run out and place it in the freezor even though the company doesn't recommend it. I'm happy to see that Amazon is now carrying this bread, so it can just be delivered to my home, and I no longer will have to go to a specialty store which is a distance from my home to buy this product.Ener-G Foods Yeast-Free Brown Rice Loaf, 19-Ounce Units (Pack of 6)

1I wish there was zero stars...Aug 09, 2010
By Anna M. Ahlbin "Ella's mom"
This is one of the most horrible things I've ever attempted to eat. It practically sucks the moisture out of your mouth, and the texture is like chewing sand without the crunch. It has this awful tangy but bland flavor, and is barely swallowable. I'm glad things like this are available to people who have many allergies and intolerances, but I feel so sorry for them having to eat it. We only tried this bread during the elimination phase of an oligoantigenic diet, and even if I could never have bread again, I'd rather eat peanut butter and jelly plain, than put it on this disgusting stuff. Horrid. Absolutely horrid.

4Not the same as regular bread, but far better than nothingMar 28, 2008
By Don Chin
This is the only yeast-free and gluten-free bread I have found. It can't really be compared to regular bread, but that being said, it is not too bad when it is toasted. You have to turn the toaster up pretty high to get it to brown, but it makes decent toast and toasted sandwiches. I have come to actually like this bread after complaining about it initially. And I feel so much better from avoiding gluten that I know I will have no problem eating this bread from now on.

I like the Brown Rice Loaf better than the White Rice. And there's a bonus, the bread is vacuum-sealed and can sit on the shelf for months (You'll need to refrigerate it after opening).

If you are desperate for bread that has no yeast or gluten, I would recommend you try this. If you can have yeast, there are better breads out there (such as Pamela's Wheat-Free Bread Mix).

4Given these restrictions...Jun 04, 2010
By R. A. Frederick
To make real bread, one needs yeast and gluten. As a baker, I tried this bread on a whim. It is completely different than the bread I bake or even the garbage that passes as bread in a grocery store. However, if you cannot digest gluten or yeast, this bread is much better than any one could make at home. If one toasts the bread (really toast it to a deep golden color) it is a great vehicle for other flavors and has a nice texture in a sandwich. I cannot stress the importance of toasting enough. Cold and alone, it is bland and dryer than dry, but it has real potential with a little heat, Vegenaise and fresh tomato and basil.
