Creative chocolates for foodiesFeb 06, 2011
By Fun dad After reading a NY Times review, we stopped in at Chuao in San Diego for a Mayan mocha and box of dark chocolate truffles, and have been regular mail order customers since. The dark chocolate truffles have fantastic texture and flavor and are worth the (not insignificant) expense. The cocoa used is very rich and the truffles use unusual combinations of flavors and textures that are outstanding. It's a great gift for friends or co-workers, and far tastier and more interesting than Ghiradelli, Godiva or See's. A couple favorites include the Grignotinne Dark (roasted & caramelized almonds, pistachios, orange in a rich dark chocolate), Chevere (goat cheese, pear, and pepper buttercream), and Firecracker (sea salt caramel wrapped in a CO2 infused hard caramel and chili dark chocolate shell - an indescribable gourmet chocolate caramel pop rock with a kick). Really really high quality and creative. Downside - their standard overnight shipping charges (to avoid melting) can be high if you place a small order, but there are 10-20% discounts or occasional free shipping for larger orders. The reviewer that gave this one star can keep eating Hersheys and Velveeta; I question their sense of taste, literally.

Expensive and not that greatSep 12, 2009
By Jamie Harding I don't know what all the hype is about this brand of chocolates. I heard they were the best. ...but most of the (small) pieces were overly fancy. Who wants peppers in their chocolate?
Either my tastes aren't refined enough or this box of chocolates wasn't very good. I could recommend better.
