4good smokeAug 07, 2007
By Lisa D. Mcdaniel "mystery buff"
We purchased planks from an upscale retailer and liked them but not the price. We tried these and because they are thicker. They last a few more times than the thin ones. We used indirect heat to smoke trout, salmon and redfish. All were very good.

5Neat pack to give as gifts and keep one for yourselfJan 10, 2007
By Peter M. Wallace "Tech Geek / Gadget Man Extraordinaire"
Many of the finer restaurants are starting to use planks with more meats than just fish, and it is for good reason. Basically with the plank after soaking and putting the meat on it, you are "steaming" in the cedar flavor in this case, and it adds a different flavor that you can not get with seasonings. I gave out 2 of the packs as gifts for the holidays and kept one for myself and I am already thinking about getting other wood types. It seems to me that one could make an argument that choosing the right wood to cook your meat on is as important as the wine you have with the meal - and they would be right.

5GREAT choice - Grilling Planks!!Nov 20, 2007
By N Wilson
The quality of these grilling planks is 'very good' - the price for the 3 sets of 2 planks = 6 is EXCELLENT!
I gave 2 planks away as a gift - they loved the experience of grilling on a plank and said the taste was fabulous! Actually they are ordering their own planks here on Amazon.com from the Fire & Flavor Grilling Co.
I would highly recommend this product.
I would also recommend the Grilling Plank Cookbook - it has great tips and recipes!
Enjoy!!

5A fun way to add flavor to foodDec 22, 2007
By Sean P. Logue "If you can't win, change the rules."
I'm just getting into the whole plank cooking thing, and so far I'm really enjoying it. It is a great way to give a mild, woody flavor to fish.

These are the thicker planks, which are nicer than the considerably thinner type. The thinner ones are called disposable because they can really only be used once (maybe twice, but don't bet on it).

Another fun thing to try is grilling papers. They are really thin slices of wood that you wrap completely around the fish. It holds the moisture in and gives more of a steamed effect.

The same company also makes square planks that are intended to be served on individual plates for serving after cooking.

2Didn't add much to the partyJan 13, 2012

I read the reviews before my purchase thinking these planks would add something to the flavor party. They did not. I noticed no difference in flavor as opposed to just tossing wood chips directly onto the BBQ, or even just using a good marinade and BBQ'ing the regular way. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? I'm giving it two stars only because they didn't catch fire.
