Spicy, sweet, smoky - great with some things, but limited useJan 30, 2009

"Frequent traveler, business owner, and self-professed gadget junkie"
This stuff has been a big hit with my family, especially with pork chops. We are serious "foodies" (I spent my early life in the restaurant business, and still do a lot of gourmet cooking), and find this to be an interesting flavor profile to add to *certain* dishes.
Because of its intensity across the flavor spectrum (very sweet, very fruity, quite spicy) its range of possible uses is fairly limited, but very noteworthy. I find the amount of seeds and pulp to be annoying for most uses, so I usually "water it down" with some stock or water (or fruit juice), warm it gently, then press it through a sieve to make a nice finishing sauce for pork or duck.
I have not been able to find or develop a recipe yet where I can use this sauce as part of the cooking process, probably because of the sugar content - it tends to burn when used as a BBQ marinade or sauce. Speaking of BBQ, it is very nice as a "finishing sauce" for BBQ ribs or chicken - I pull the meat off the grill and brush with the warmed sauce and then serve. Generally my guests will prefer the ribs finished with this sauce over those finished with a traditional BBQ sauce. This may be because of the unique flavor profile, but I also think that the combination of raspberry and chipotle is a brilliant combo for certain meat dishes.
My favorite recipes for this product:
Brined thick-cut pork rib chops, grilled or pan seared and then finished with a warmed, strained version of this sauce that has been slightly reduced with chicken stock.
BBQ Ribs finished with an undiluted glaze of this sauce
Seared duck breasts served on a "coulis" of this sauce that has been warmed with duck stock, reduced and about 1/2 of the pulp and seeds removed.
All three are big hits with guests and my family.
Other than these dishes, I have not been able to come up with anything that doesn't taste "weird" with this sauce. (For example, BBQ NY Steaks were awful, and it is downright bizarre on a burger).
My son likes it on a turkey sandwich, but I have to admit I'm not a big fan

A great tasting sauce with unlimited menu options!Jan 22, 2009

Whether you're preparing an appetizer, side dish, main course or dessert Fischer & Wieser Razzpotle Roasted Raspberry Chipotle Sauce, 20-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 6) is a wonderful item to have on hand.
I originally ordered this without realizing that it did contain seeds. Unfortunately I am the type that buys seedless jams, so I was definitely worried that I wouldn't like it. Upon receiving my order, it looked as though it was a very minimal amount so I decided to give it a try. Wanting to use recipes that have been tested with this sauce I headed to the Fischer & Wieser website. There I found three different ones that looked good and would allow me to taste the range of possibilities for this particular sauce.
My first choice was raspberry creamed chicken for dinner and it was delicious! The flavor was very nice and I think the cream toned down some of the chipotle's heat which my son wouldn't have normally liked. Then for dessert we decided to go easy and drizzle some onto vanilla ice cream. Simple, but tasty when combined together. The other recipe I will try soon is the raspberry chipotle cheese ball. It's a take on the sauce poured over cream cheese that everyone has mentioned, but this mixes both together and then you roll it in nuts. I'm taking it to a super bowl party and hope that it'll be an instant hit. *Edit 2/2/09 - Okay it was a hit! Everyone asked me what was in the cheese ball and they were all surprised when I said it was just cream cheese and the Razzpotle sauce. I used a soup bowl lined with saran wrap for the mold and then after it was chilled to firm up, I covered it with toasted chopped pecans - So easy!
Overall this is a very versatile sauce that I will continue stocking in my pantry. At first the price seemed a bit high, but when I thought about the price of fresh raspberries I changed my mind. The only thing keeping me from giving this sauce 5 stars would be those seeds! Although they didn't bother me enough to keep me from eating it, it was enough to say there is room for improvement in my opinion.

smokilicious!Jan 22, 2009
By Cupcake There are a zillion sweet & spicy products, but what makes this one special is the chipotles' smokiness. It's strong smoky flavor makes is much sturdier than the average sweet/hot condiment. (It also makes it too strong, in my opinion, for fish.) It's great on chicken & beef, but it really sings on pork, where the smoke is a natural. Also makes a quick and pretty appetizer dumped over goat cheese. The spice has a nice slow burn. I also like that it's a liquid condiment--much of the sweet/spicy stuff is either jelly- or chutney-like, not pourable--or if it is pourable, it's greasy (this isn't). I'm going to try a little blended into brownie batter. I love chipotle powder in brownies, so I think this would add an extra yummy dimension & some nice moisture and texture. Yum!

Many Great UsesJan 22, 2009

We used the sauce with our steaks the first night, and everyone agreed that it was delicious. Our usual steak sauce is bourbon peppercorn, but we will be using the Original Raspberry Chipotle Sauce from here on out.
We like all kinds of foods, but especially spicy dishes like chicken curry and gumbo, so this sauce was the perfect combination of sweet and spicy. It also came with a tag on the bottle which had six recipes. I tried the hors d'oeuvres recipe, and it was fantastic!!

Nice Meat Flavoring SauceJan 22, 2009
By Timothy Lovett I'd have to agree with the other reviewers that the sauce definitely was fairly sweet and less so in terms of hotness. That's not to say it wasn't good... in fact, I loved the sauce but it just has a unique taste I can't really put my finger on.
I tried it with some ground beef mixed in with the sauce (the extent of my cooking ability unfortunately) along with some sautéed vegetables and was pleasantly surprised with the taste. It seems a bit too exotic for my normal cooking needs but I'm sure if you're trying to impress someone or if you're just looking to add a little flavor to your meals this sauce will do its job well.
As others have said the bottle indicates it needs to be refrigerated after opening and seems to have a short expiration date from opening after that. It's somewhat unfortunate because I don't want to coat my meals with the stuff (since I live with two roommates who aren't exactly chefs themselves) but if you live in a large household I wouldn't imagine it being a real issue.
It's a good sauce if you like the taste. One word of warning, however, I'm just an average guy, I have no idea what chipotle means other than it should be hot but if I like the stuff I'd think most other non-chipotle connoisseurs would as well.
