5One of the best sunscreens out there!Jun 19, 2008
By LawyerMom
I bought both this and the KineSYS sunscreen for adults after seeing that it was the only spray sunscreen recommended by the Environmental Working Group as low hazard and highly effective. Ever since I read that a person's lifetime risk of developing skin cancer is increased exponentially whenever you get a sunburn at a very young age, I've been applying sunblock to my child very liberally. In my research, I learned that not all sunscreens are created equal. Not all have UVA protection; many contain ingredients that are carcinogenic; some sunblocks break down in the sun or are unstable when in combination with the other ingredients in that product; and generally speaking many products have misleading advertising claims. Using the EWG's recommendations as a guide, I found this spray sunblock on Amazon.

I've been thrilled with the results so far. Unlike my prior experiences, this one actually sprays on. (Other "spray" sunblocks, like Banana Boat, spray on a thick cream which you still have to rub in like a lotion.) KineSYS spritzes on with a pump similar to non-aerosol hairsprays. Though the amount of fluid that spritzes out is somewhat significant, so I usually rub it in anyways, but it's closer to rubbing in water than a lotion. (It's very slightly greasy, but dries immediately, and leaves no greasy residue.) It also sprays on clear, so if you didn't want to rub it in, it would be fine. (I do spray it into my hand and rub it onto my daughter's face, rather than spraying it directly onto her face.)

My daughter has endured the scorching sun of the desert for two weeks and barely got darker with the use of this product. And it has cut the amount of time it takes to apply sunblock to a toddler in half--which makes it easier for me to convince her that it's time to reapply every couple hours. The main drawback is that it's a lot more expensive than I'd like to spend for a sunblock, but considering all the potential drawbacks of the alternatives, it's not too much to pay. (And for those who are wondering, there IS a slight difference in the non-active ingredients between the kids' sunblock and the adult version also produced by KineSYS.)

The 4 ounce bottle is small, but since it's a liquid, it goes further than larger lotion bottles. I went through maybe one and a quarter bottles for the entire summer, though we didn't spend a lot of time at the pool or the beach.

1Dry skinMay 19, 2009
By Dawn L. Agort-kurth "Careful Momma"
After using this on my 22 month old, I noticed red, dry skin on her ears, chin and cheeks. I did use it again after the original symptoms cleared up to see if this was the culprit versus something else and the redness and dry skin came back.

4one of my favorite sunscreen, though not perfect.Jun 27, 2009
By Jt's mom
I bought this sunscreen for my 4 year old son mostly based on the Environmental Working Group's recommendation on safest and best sunscreens. It is the highest rated spray.

What I like about it the most is that my son LOVES it. For some reason it goes on so light and silky that he really doesn't mind putting it on. I spray it in my hand and then wipe on his face and ears.

We live in Florida so sunscreen is a daily thing. I keep this in the car and put it on before school, camp etc. I sort of wish I could use it for myself, but it's just too expensive for both of us to use it daily. So I reserve it mostly for my son.

I did have a problem with it. During a day at the waterpark I applied it before we arrived (930) and he was in the waterpark from 1030-3pm. I did reapply after lunch at about noon. It wasn't enough. He did get pink on his cheeks and arms. It was not a bad burn though, he woke up totally pale the next day. Part of the problem was that he was standing in running water of the fountains 80 percent of the day which I imagine really just washed it off over and over. I probably should have reapplied another time too. Ever since then, if he is going to be doing something along those lines, I use a more solid cream sunscreen that seems to hold up better.

But for the most part, we live in the sunniest climate and otherwise this sunscreen has been great.

5Love it!Feb 17, 2009

This has worked really well for me and my 2 yr old twins. I found it through Skin Deep, the Environmental Working Group's cosmetic database. It gets great ratings for sun protection and minimal toxicity. It goes on easily, dries quickly, and kept them tan and burn free for a week in the Caribbean. It's so light feeling it's deceptive but it works! I started using it myself when I felt how non-greasy and light it feels on the skin.
