Mocafe NSA Frappe Mocha vs. Big Train Ice Blended Low Carb MochaJun 18, 2011
By Natasha Stryker I was lured to order the MOCAFE Frappe Mocha Mix (No Sugar Added Ice Blended Coffee) because it was almost $10 cheaper than my current favorite mix, Big Train Ice Blended Low Carb Mocha. It was also offered in a 3 pound bag and I was currently buying the 1.8 pound canisters of my favorite on netrition's website, so it was more mix for your money as well.
When this Mocafe mix arrived I did a side by side taste and texture comparison between the two. I used an equal amount of each mix, used equal amounts of liquids (4.5 ounces water, 1.5 ounces heavy cream) and 6 ice cubes each and blended them up and put them in identical glasses. The Big Train mix won in every comparison of the two: 1) Right off the bat, the Mocafe mix failed to blend as well as the Big Train mix. It had a snow cone layer on top of the glass that was not pleasant to drink through, the Big Train mix had a thick shake-like texture with uniform creaminess. 2) The Big Train mix was darker in color and more complex in flavor, it tasted rich like a blended mocha made with chocolate and coffee or espresso. The Mocafe mix was very light in color and taste, hardly any coffee or chocolate flavor at all, it tasted weak in comparison to the Big Train mix. I upped the Mocafe mix to double and re-blended and the flavor was better but still weaker. 3) The 3 pound bag of Mocafe says that it contains 35 servings, the 1.85 pound can of Big Train says it contains 60 servings -- you are actually getting almost twice the drinks from the smaller container of Big Train. 4) Price per drink breaks down to $.51 per serving of mix for the Mocafe vs. $.43 for a serving of the Big Train mix. That is if you pay $18 for the bag of Mocafe on Subscribe & Save as I did on amazon and $26 for the canister of Big Train at netrition; I did not include shipping costs on either brand. 5) The Mocafe comes in a bag with no ziplock top and no scoop, so you have to provide your own container and figure out how much to use with the assistance of a kitchen scale to measure out 38 grams. The Big Train Mix has its own scoop and comes in a lidded canister that is easy to use and keeps the product fresh. 6) If you are concerned about calories, Mocafe is 70 calories per serving with 9 carbs and Big Train is 45 calories and just 2 carbs. 7) The sweeteners used in Mocafe are "corn syrup solids, sugar(!?), and Sucralose; the sweeteners in the Big Train are Erythritol and Sucralose. I was shocked to see sugar listed in the Mocafe since the label says "No Sugar Added" right in the title.
Overall I was not impressed by the Mocafe and will be canceling my subscription, it gets 2 stars. I will be ordering more Big Train, it gets 5 stars. I hope that amazon will start to carry it at a competitive price so that I can order it here, they currently charge 39 dollars and that is $13 more than I get it elsewhere.

How big is a "scoop"?Jan 04, 2011
By Barbara J. Webb I purchased this item and it is good once you finally get your amounts set. The instructions say to add one scoop of this mixture to the other ingredients in your frappe maker. There is nothing on the package that I could find that told me how big a scoop is, so I don't really think I'm getting the proper flavor to this mix.

Great tasting!Dec 12, 2009

I have tried a number of different flavors, and this is a great tasting item - and without the added sugar of other brands. You can hardly tell a difference between this and regular items that don't limit the added sugar to them. It is one of my favorites - prefer it over other flavors. All the flavor without the added sugar - a sure winner!!
Likes to Drink(non liquor)Mar 20, 2012
By Marque I usually do a great deal of drinking during the day (non alcohol). This Mix,Mocafe Frappe Mocha, is a no sugar added mix with which you may mix with milk or water. I Usually mix mine with Half and Half (milk). Since I am a
diabetic, I have to watch my sugar and carb intake in which this mix is very low. The taste is quite good and very refreshing. This is my first order with no sugar added but the product still has a good flavor.
No FlavorNov 09, 2011
By tburrus It might be because I LOVE the regular MOCAFE frappe mix, but when I tried this it had no flavor. I couldn't taste coffee or chocolate. I tried it a couple of times and still really missed the flavor of the regular one. Won't buy again.
