Fantastic ProductJul 28, 2009
By D. K. Mckenzie This is a really good product. While it is only 4 ounces, it is actually about a quart of freeze dried shallots. I have long used fresh shallots extensively in cooking, and these are an excellent replacementwhen "fresh" is not required (such as salads, etc). They save all the work of peeling and chopping fresh shallots for cooking. The product, while fairly costly (as are fresh shallots), is a real time saver, and worth every penny of the cost. Freeze dried is much better than just plain dried. I use freeze dried herbs whenever I can find them, as they more exactly replace fresh products. If you use shallots, you will love this product.

shallots on hand all the timeFeb 14, 2011

Great way to keep shallots on hand. The fresh ones are not inexpensive especially if part of it is wasted. This allows me to have it on hand and not have to run out to get them at the last minute. Convenient to have and taste is very good.

McCormick's Freeze Dried Shallots - Quality+Dec 17, 2010
By Owhatagoosiam I use a lot of herbs and spices. If I can find what I want in a McCormick product, I will usually purchase the McCormick product. I was skeptical about freeze dried shallots. If you are picky enough to use shallots, how can you not suspect freeze dried shallots?
Yes, fresh, hand selected shallots are better, but you don't always have them handy.
These are great. Just rehydrate or use dried in your recipes containing liquids. You will be hard pressed to discern!

This product re-hydrates beautifully! I live a long way from the store and shallots add such a wonderful dimension to many food dishes, it is just plain fun to have them always available.
