When I opened the can, I thought the product had a plastic smell. I wondered if the fire roasting made them smell different than I'm used to. I went looking for reviews to see if others had this experience. One reviewer on this site says the cans are lined with plastic and leach BPA. I don't know if that's true, but based on how the tomatoes smell I'm inclined to believe it. They also have a plastic undertone to the taste. I've decided not to use these tomatoes.

Muir Glen has the best quality tomato products on the market. They are a bit more expensive than the cheap brands at the grocery stores, but well worth the difference. Since I "subscribe" to regular shipments from Amazon, it is cheaper to have Muir Glen products delivered to my door, than what it costs to buy Muir Glen at the grocery stores. Not many stores carry Muir Glen anyhow, so buying through Amazon is, by far, the best way to get these delicious tomato products.

My husband makes salsa from these tomatoes. The fire roasted specs add alot to the flavor. I've bought Muir Glen for years and never had a problem. Cases of cans from Amazon tend to arrive with at least a few dented though.

i use these to make pizza, pasta sauce, ratatouille, chili, beef stew and a cooked spicy tomato ranchero sauce for beef/cheese enchiladas. the tomatoes have a great added depth from being roasted. whole tomatoes for pizza, i just slice them, lay flat, topped with crumbled oregano/basil like as if i were using fresh. buying whole tomatoes really allows to decided the final texture of the outcome. anyway very versatile ten times better than most canned tomatoes.
