In this preserve, the hearts are harvested from stalks of select wild "Euterpe" palms, which grow back again - a renewable resource. Employment is provided for indigenous natives in the rainforest region who have learned how, where, and when to cut the plants to maintain and repopulate that palm species. Native Forest Organic Hearts of Palm are tender and delicious, yet low in fat and calories. They are perfect complement to any meal | | | Features: | |

Yummy and InexpensiveJan 12, 2010

I used to buy canned hearts of palm at Trader Joes, until they discontinued them. They still sell jarred HOP, but they taste "treated" and I don't like the texture. The Reese HOP at the grocery store cost almost $5 per can and I can't justify that expense. I'm glad I found them here - they taste great, I rarely get any stalks that are inedible, and at $3 a can the price can't be beat. They always arrive quickly, too.

low sodiumMay 05, 2011
By Pdxreader Excellent quality, and much lower sodium than what I find in the stores. A few have been more fibrous than I would have preferred, but nothing inedible. The price can't be beat. I plan to reorder.

Absoutely wonderful. Tender strips with just the right amount of saltiness. Very much like Artichoke hearts only, of course, organic and very unique in origin. If you do not know where hearts of palm come from, read up on it. It's very interesting. And, a wonderful addition to so many food dishes. Especially exotic organic homeade dips.

Not what I expectedSep 24, 2007
By Gwen A. Conley I have purchased this product at a much higher price in stores. I was glad to see it being carried by Amazon at a lower price. I was disappointed in the quality however. There was at least one "woody" palm heart in every can. I have never had this happen before when I had purchased them locally. To have an entire case like this was quite an unpleasant surprise! Palm hearts are one of my favorite foods and I will purchase them again, but will probably try another brand.
