BEST and PUREST Solution I've foundDec 26, 2010
By A. Weber After 20 years of skin and immunological problems, I finally discovered the source of my problems were almost exclusively due to chemical exposure and subsequent sensitization about 2 years ago. This is my first review I have written after over 100 purchases on this site, so bear with me - I really was impressed.
In 2007, I had a corneal abrasion requiring antibiotic drops that damaged the skin around my eyes, which to date has never fully healed. 20 years of immunological suppression, particularly with prednisone, also led to cataract removal two years ago, leaving my eyes dry and irritated, particularly in the morning.
I've used just about every lubricating option on the market, switching to the individual "preservative-free" vials. Regardless of what I have tried, within 2 days of using certain brands, my eyes would begin to burn, and become incredibly light sensitive to the point it was difficult if not impossible to drive until I stopped using the eye drops. However, my focus was always on the 'active' ingredients in trying to determine what might be the cause of the irritation.
I came across the site "Skin Deep," which I highly recommend to anyone interested in deciphering what is actually in some of the 23,000 products they have listed there. Punching in the various products I had used, I discovered that consistently, one of the 'inactive' ingredients I had not paid much attention to was boric acid, rated 9 on a scale of 1 to 9, 9 being the most toxic. I lived in NYC for a time, and I am very familiar with boric acid as being one of the very few substances in the world that would keep cockroaches out of your apartment. I didn't need the site to tell me it is a highly irritating substances. So much for 'inactivity.'
The highest 'non-toxic' rated eye drops on Skin Deep was Optics' OcuFresh. I wondered if the boric acid might not also be the source of extreme irritation to the skin around my eyes as well, and not just to my eyes alone. So I ordered the product, ordered an eye wash cup - glass - and crossed my fingers.
I have been using it since it arrived - very quickly - and packaged well. The price for 60 20ml vials, which takes care of both eyes - is actually less than the drugstore products I had been buying with .05ml per vial. I followed the recommendation for usage listed by some other users posted here, and I can say i am thrilled. I use it before I go to sleep at night. And my eyes do feel great after. I go to sleep with my eyes feeling clean and bright. While my eyes are not exactly moist when i awake, they are also not crudded over, which is more than i can say for the drugstore products that had me reaching blindly for yet another vial every morning to dislodge my eyeball from the lid it was glued to:)
And even better - the skin around my eyes is starting to heal! For the first time in over 3 years. Do I credit OcuFresh for miraculously healing my eyes and lids? In a way. What I credit them with is not getting in the way of my body's natural healing abilities. I inadvertently was continuing to damage my eyes and lids every time I reached for products I thought would do for me what OcuFresh is doing now. So... bless you Optics, for making a product available that simply washes out crud, allergens and simply refreshes my eyes without adding a bunch of 'inactive' crap that doubles as a cockroach killer, probably the hardest creature on this earth to get rid of:)
Obviously not everyone is as sensitive as I am to chemicals. But given the eyes have more blood vessels to allow for absorption systemically than almost any other place we can apply products to, I would think everyone out there would be interested in absorbing as little crap as possible.
Who knew filtered water and salt make such a difference? And now in the morning, my eyes are a little dry at first, but having used OcuFresh the night before, they are clear of that 'debris' that used to scratch them, and within minute of awaking, they are moist enough for me not to have to use anything the rest of the day. And when I do get around chemicals (or cats) during the day, and start to feel that itchiness, I can use the OcuFresh to arrest the reaction and happily go back to living my life.

Awesome!! It lastsJan 15, 2009

My mom and i bought this together since I couldn't finish it myself. I use it occasionally when is needed. It's gentle like tears. Will buy again. I wish the vials can be close-able since I can't finish one vial at a time. Buying a cup for raising your eyes will be helpful b/c it's hard to just dump the solution into your eyes.

Great for contact wearersMay 01, 2008
By Alix These are great to use at the end of the day when your eyes become irritated from all day contact wear. Using the eyewash is really soothing and I can really tell a difference from using them before I go to bed, my eyes are not red or irritated anymore when I wake up. Great product.(These are just the refills, you will want to get the little starter kit that comes with the eye cup and 6 vials of the eyewash)

Great for people who wear contacts and/or eye makeup.Nov 20, 2009

I'm glad I found this on Amazon for the size and price. Normally I by the smaller pack in stores, but it seems like months go by before they ever restock it. Using OcuFresh helps to prolong the use of my contacts and helps reduce the eye strain that comes with wearing them so frequently. With one vial I can wash out each eye twice using an eye cup. Its surprising some of the stuff that gets stuck in your eyes and its important to keep them clean.
As for the package: there is *no eye cup* so make sure you buy one beforehand. It is a bit heavy as was mentioned, but the box is very sturdy so it will store well.
Also, does anyone who uses this have glaucoma or cataracts? Does your doctor recommend OcuFresh, and if so, do you use it with eyebright or anything else?

Be very careful - WARNING !!!May 13, 2012
By HAB I suffer from allergies, and when I discovered this product I was thrilled, I and the reviews were all positive, I tried the product and it worked out great, the product helped mitigate any eye irritation after a shower and contact lens use, it was a great feeling to use this product whenever my eyes felt irritated. I used it often for a few months and even stocked up on this product because there was a shortage of this product for a period and was not available on Amazon or CVS.
My problems began after a few months - I developed Chalazion - essential pimple like swellings on the inside of the eyelids caused due to blocked oil glands that are present on the edge of the eyelids. Slightly painful, like a pimple, I went to a top eye surgeon in San Francisco (this doc is considered the top eye doc in the world, very renowned, from UCSF hospital), when I told him the history he was very clear do not use this eyewash as this company has suggested - washing out the entire eye using an eye cup every day, what this does is it interferes with the functioning of the oil glands by washing away some of the stuff that is necessary, this can lead to blocked pores that are on the edge of the lids and you end up with almost solidified oil that appear as pimples which get infected. The good news is I ended up discarding all my contact lens, solutions and all eye cups, got antibiotics and now have to use antibiotic ointment every night for the lids, use a hot compress and also shampoo my lids every morning. This happened 10 months ago and I have managed to reduce the problem by only 50%, it takes months for this to resolve.
The doc also told me that I could use this product as drops in the eye but never as an eye WASH as suggested by the manufacturer. The way the product has been suggested to be used is very wrong, if any of you have any kind of pimple like structures inside your eyelids that you can feel with your fingers there is a very good chance that it was caused by this product.
