Description:

White Tea scented with the soothing aroma of fresh jasmine flowers. Rishi White Teas are made from authentic medium-leaf tea bush varietals which produce silvery-white sprouts and leaves. They are delicately hand harvested only once a year, for a few weeks in early spring when the weather is consistently cool and dry. White Tea is the least processed of all tea types, resulting in a milder flavor without bitterness and a sweeter finish than green tea. Compared to other teas, White Teas are very low in caffeine and contain high concentrations of antioxidant polyphenols (tea catechins). White Tea originated in a small area north of the Min River in the province of Fujian. It is this region, 1000 meters above sea level where Rishi White Teas are cultivated organically at select smallholder gardens using authentic white tea bush varietals and the classic white tea leaf-withering process. Each year, Rishi travels to this remote heritage region to work directly with the artisans and select the highest quality tea of the season. USDA organic. Certified kosher. Certified Organic by Quality Assurance International.

5A wonderful premium teaOct 20, 2008
By S. Harrison
Yes, you are right. This tea is expensive. It is also quite marvelous.

Right off the bat, I was impressed with the packaging of this tea. The tea comes packed in the correct kind of tin, with both outer and inner tightly fitting lids. When one pops out the inner lid, one is instantly rewarded with a waft of the wonderful scent of jasmine. Ah..... Heaven. Or, if not Heaven, at least a tropical garden at twilight.

Now what's this? you might ask. This doesn't smell like the jasmine tea from the local Chinese takeout place. Yep. It sure doesn't. That's because this is The Real Deal. This tea is made up of whole baby tea leaves ("white tea") and whole jasmine flowers. No raggedy bits and pieces of leaves and twigs were to be found anywhere. No jasmine "flavoring." No bitter aftertaste. Mmmmmmmmmmmm.....

I carefully prepared the tea according to directions - one tablespoon of tea leaves per 8 oz. of water heated to 185 degrees. The directions said to steep the tea from four to five minutes, which seemed excessive to me, as I didn't want bitter tea. But in a real test, one must follow the directions, so I let the tea infuser sit in the water for a full five minutes. And I was rewarded. This is an utterly delightful tea, completely lacking the bitterness that can be associated with green teas. This tea is wonderful "as is" - no sweetener or milk should be added, in my opinion.

The directions also stated that one tablespoon can be steeped "multiple times." Well, how many times is "multiple?" Good question. The first cup steeped was delightfully aromatic. The second cup less so, but still good. The third cup was rather pedestrian, the fourth cup just bland. Not bitter, not awful, just bland. I didn't try a fifth round of steeping. This is a tea best suited for someone who is going to want more than one cup of tea within a fairly short time span - if that is you, you will find there is a lot of bang for the buck with this product.

All in all, I find this tea to be just wonderful.

5The good stuff...Nov 13, 2008
By Abe Vigoda "part-time inventor"
I could use this space to tell you all about how wonderful this tea tastes and about how healthy it is but I see that other reviewers have done a great job of that. I do not write food-tasting columns for a living so I shall not be more dramatic than just simply stating that this tea is soothing and easy to drink. We all can use the antioxidants, so drink up!
Quick facts: ALL Tea comes from the very same plant.
White tea is fast-dried.
Green tea is roasted in an oven or pan.
Oolong and black teas are fermented before curing.
Now, 'Silver Needle' white tea is the best. It is picked between March 15 and April 10 when it is not raining and only using undamaged and unopened buds.
Yes people, this is ARTISAN tea.
The fact that it coms mixed with Jasmine flowers makes it smell great.

3You get what you pay forJan 11, 2011
By KN "Love things and stuff!"
I've purchased a lot of premium loose leaf teas, and I was hoping this would be the same according to their glowing description. What I found are a lot of twigs, and sub-par leafs in this product.

The flavor is enhanced by the Jasmine flavor, but without that, I am not sure there would be much body to it. It's not awful, just disappointing.

I will keep buying my premium teas from more reputable sources.

5Jasmine White Rishi Tea.Jan 17, 2011
By Laurence E. Spaner "Lee Spaner"
This tea doesnt disappoint whatsoever,If you like jasmine green pearl or jasmine green tea from Rishi you will love this white jasmine tea.
Rishi is known for its Sencha. I might add that the teas that Amazon posts for sale are not the only teas the company sells.
If you go on line or call the company ( calling the company is better ) you can find out about their prize winning sencha and other teas.
I must warn you they are very expensive.$$$$$
If you are invested in this area of tea making which I am then please people check your water temp. ( 175 degrees or a drop less ) and for some teas, "time them to taste".
That means for some you will be in the water for less than three min, and for some more than three.
Remember the basket of dry leaves does not go into the water until the temp drops to 175 degrees. Pay attention or you will end up cooking the leaves rather than steeping them. Thanks and have a great day.
