schar products are really good overallApr 25, 2010

My 14 yr old son has celiac and finding products a kid likes is difficult. He likes all the schar products. I have also found using a corn based spaghetti pasta does better than an all brown rice spagetti. He says it is "most real". I rinse it after cooking (all gf pastas do better for somereason if you rinse them after cooking/straining). With all gf pasta there is a fine line between "al dente-not cooked-and overcooking" , but I found schar has more time to forgive!

This is the best gluten-free spaghetti I've found. Previously we had to make two pots of pasta -- one for the 1/2 of the house that is gluten-intolerant and another for the "normal" folks. Everyone loves this pasta, so now we make ONE pot and everyone's happy.

I've tried many GF noodles. I was a fan of Tinkyada until I tried this Schar's product. Everyone in the family (gluten free and not gluten free) found Schar's to taste most like 'real' spaghetti noodles. The color is like an egg noodle, but the taste is like regular noodles. I also like that it takes less time to cook than Tinkyada.

If you just love spaghetti, and have to have it, cook these noodles in AMPLE water and stir frequently, and all will be well. Their taste and texture is quite nice as long as they are not over-cooked. However, if you cook them like wheat pasta, you'll end up with a clumpy, unevenly cooked mess.
I prefer the penne and fusilli, for which preparation is really a no-brainer.
I cook all of them for the minimum time given on the packet instructions and rinse briefly with cool water.
(Guests have not noticed that these are gluten free pastas.)

I've been gf for about 6 years and Schar is by far the best gf products I've ever had. The only negative thing about this pasta is the price. For our family of 7 we need two packages of spaghetti to feed all of us.
A word of advice about cooking this - I've had trouble with it sticking together in large clumps so I now break them in half first and then fan them into the pot.
If you were a pasta lover before going gf, you will find this worth the price!!
