I found this mix in the usual places - Wild Oats, Whole Foods, etc - and really liked it and then suddenly my semi-local WO stopped carrying the company's products. Luckily I found it on Amazon. The biscuits that this mix makes are really good - all that required butter doesn't hurt, you know - even my husband and daughter (the gluten eaters in the family) seem to enjoy them, too.

Truly Gluten Free! Currently eating biscuits with my fingers. Very good.Feb 08, 2009
By Lisa M. Mims Lots of 'gluten-free' mixes sold--aren't. This one is, and it tastes fantastic.
I used it make biscuits this morning. The package calls for 1 cup of buttermilk and 3/4 cup of butter, neither of which I had in the fridge.
So, I used 1 cup of cottage cheese, 1/2 cup of water and 3/4 cup of SmartStart and increased the baking time to eighteen minutes. This made about sixteen large, creamy biscuits in about half an hour, from the time I started pouring flour into a bowl--note to self: turn off the ceiling fan, first--to the time I took the biscuits, golden brown and steaming, out of a hot oven.
This is a good way to save money on gluten-free biscuits, too: each box of this, when prepared with the other ingredients, costs about $5.50. To get the same amount of gluten free biscuits like this in a Whole Foods, you're going to pay about $9.00, and they're frozen. (Whole Foods supposedly uses the same manufacturer for flours, so they're very nearly the same biscuits.)
