Is tender jerky an oxy-moron?Jan 03, 2007

This was a very tender jerky.
Back in my youth, I used to eat jerky that could rip your teeth out. But with the sensitive teeth I have now, I need to show a little discretion. This jerky was great. It was pleasantly sweet & spicy with a little heat which I appreciated. The only drawback were the whole spices that were stuck to the pieces. Some of them were hard as rocks. Nearly cracked a tooth on more than one occasion.
There were 2 bags, but they went fast.

The best word to describe this jerky is: Inconsistent. The quality of the meat varies greatly piece by piece. Some pieces are lean and flavorful. Others are about as tasty as old leather. Some pieces are paper thin, others are big chunks. Doesn't seem to be any consistency. I felt the percentage of good vs bad meat was about 60/40. The Hot and Spicy flavoring was noticeable, but wasn't particularly memorable or terrible. Left bit of a heat in my mouth, but certainly nothing to make you sweat.
Dont get me wrong, its a good value, since you get 2 lbs and free shipping. Thats a lot of jerky. Just don't expect every piece to be good. I am giving it 3 stars, but it really deserves a 3.5.

I like this flavor, it's just right in the spiciness department. It is not too mild so that you don't notice it, and it is not so hot that you feel it later.
The problem comes with the inconsistent hotness (or flavoring) from one piece to another, let alone one bag to another. For example, you can have one piece that has you sweating, while the piece before it tasted like classic flavored jerky (not hot at all). This difference in the amount of flavoring between pieces seems to be common for all of World Kitchens jerky, but it still tastes great.

I also purchased four bags, and found each to have a nasty sand-like grit. The flavor wasn't bad, especially for the price - but grit has to go before I buy any more of these.

after days of anticipation, i finally got my sweet & hot jerky. when i first opened the bag and took my first bite, i was quite impressed! some pieces may seem brittle, but i think thats because they might be a little dry. definitely not that chewy, but like little pieces of well done steak. and it is sweet, then hot! causing me to keep reaching into the bag! it might not be good enough for die hard jerky fans, but, i cant wait to try their other flavors, if and when amazon ever gets them in stock ;) tip: search for and check their web site for alternative links to buy the product. will definitely buy again!
